Where and What Have I been doing

I have been doing so much work that I forgot my username and password. I just remembered it so I will update you on where I was and what Ihave been doing since. First of all I have been doing workshops on Diabetes and its complication in a few of my communities in Guyana. I also did a Sexual Reproductive Health Educators course so that I can work with the young women in my organisation. YWCA (girls 14-17) 95% of the 80 enrolled were either sexually abused, raped etc. I am now left with 55 roughly since they others graduated last September.

It is such a challenge sometimes working with them that you want to give up beacuse they go right back to the abusers. Only Saturday I had a 3 hours discussion with 8 of them on a one and one and we discussed their rights as young girls and how they should not feel guilty since either the system, Government or even their own families failed them. Getting over that hurdle is labourious however. But I am sure something will stick with them and they will desperately try to turn it around.

I also just completed another 14.75 hours of Scientific Education on Diabetes and the HIV/AIDS the DUO. Only to realise that some Positive persons will become diabetic after being placed on ARVs, BUT THEY ARE MULTIPLE FACTORS TO CONSIDER. Well you can just imagine how drained I became because I worked with positive women some of whom developed breast cancer and I thought ok we can deal with that but now Diabetes, it can become more complicated. Nevertheless there is work to be done. I am President of the Guyana Diabetic Association so I know the work just added up.

I just did a proposal for SRH Training for one of my communities ($6,000 USD) and got the funds so I will be working for 1 year with the community to really help stop Stigma and Discrimination so as to slow the process of the Spread of HIV/AIDS.

I am really working from the grass root at this end of the world.
