Karakuli mountain in loralai, Balochistan.
In the tribal valleys of Balochistan and the heart of Pashtun lands, I was raised among stories of silence, survival, and strength. As a human rights activist, my fight began with the simple belief that every girl deserves education, dignity, and a voice. But in our pursuit of justice, I’ve come to understand a deeper truth: caring for others—especially in a community where women's voices are often muted—is an act of resistance.
As I educate and empower young girls on health, rights, and literacy, I also carry the burden of caring for myself. The emotional toll of witnessing injustice, of constantly advocating in spaces that weren’t designed for women like me, takes a quiet, daily toll. Yet, I’ve learned to find resilience in rest—through poetry, through nature, through sacred moments of stillness. My care for others is rooted in this self-nourishment.
But our struggles don’t exist in isolation. The same communities silenced by political and patriarchal structures are also the most vulnerable to the climate crisis. In rural Pashtun areas, I’ve seen how water shortages, poor sanitation, and rising heat affect women first. They walk farther to fetch water, suffer from heat-related illnesses, and have fewer resources to cope with climate disasters. Climate injustice is a gendered issue, and my activism now stands at the intersection of rights and environmental care.
I recently began advocating for eco-conscious practices through my small businesses: promoting sustainable packaging, local olive farming, and herbal alternatives. My work is no longer just about fighting for voice—it’s about preserving the land, the heritage, and the health of future generations.
To care—for our people and for our planet—is not separate. It is one fight. And every act of care, especially by a Pashtun woman, is a revolutionary act.
