The Cost of Being A Rebel.
You come across people calling some rights as 'fundamental rights.' But are they meant to be bookish theory or a lived reality? The absurdity of these so called 'enshrined rights' becomes 'villains' when you start exercise them. By fundamental rights, I understand that they are supposed to be something inseparable part of person's living. Shouldn't they?
Rights are to be exercised. BUT it is not as easy as it is said. Every constitution speaks of these fundamental rights, but the problem starts when you begin to exercise them. Be it within your families, communities, relations etc.
Referring to the constitutional 'law' does not bring about the desired changes much. Start living. Start living, as if you are all alone in this vast land. To start living, you need to think differently. People will call you rebel and use all sorts of names against you. Once you break the cycle of 'submissiveness', you will see the bright light on your sky.
Keep going! Life becomes worth living, when you start experience your freedom - take control of your life.
Economic independence gives women the 'energy' to question and stand against abuse. I strongly believe this. I see hundreds and hundreds of women and girls just silently endure all sort of violence and stupidity in the hands of male partners, is because they are financially vulnerable that instill fear of future.
I also wondered countless times why an earning woman, a professional woman should bear every kind of abuse in silence. The reason seems to be 'family honour.' What stupid honour is there in a family that abuse a woman?
It's a deep-scarred shame on humanity, especially on many men, that women are fighting for their rights and equality. "Women – half of the world's population – are fighting for dignified survival." What kind of civilisation is it?
Is there anything to be proud of our civilisation?
The world can be proud of 'over 370 million girls and women globally subjected to rape or sexual assault as children', 'some countries reporting a rape every 15 minutes', 'an estimated 71% of rape assaults going unreported', '137 women getting murdered by intimate partners each day', or '818 women experiencing sexual violence by non-intimate partners'.
Women and girls should remember this. No one is going to live your life. You are here to live it, and you have to fight for it. Let the world call you whatever name it chooses to call you.
When you start living and walk lifting your head up and looking straight at the other, the world will know and acknowledge, 'The world belongs to women and girls.'
"If something that belongs to you is not given to you freely, be prepared to take it forcefully because it belongs to you. It is YOURS."
Are you ready?
How many of you (women and girls are prepared to live your life?
