How do I count the impact? as I use opportunities to share my vision on social media platforms , so although my iniatative is geared toward s providing a safe space for Wem and girls to thrive after domestic violence situations, I have always been adamant about reaching our men.
I think if our men who are perpetrator a of DV are rehabilitated there will be less repeat situations, if there s re education and attention is paid to the mental wellness of our men and boys, providing space for them to talk, reach out for help we can create changed behaviour and a safer environment in relationships for our women..
So my son did a tik Tok video last month to raise awareness highlighting June as Mens Mental Health Wellness Month. I took the opportunity to share this video as I felt the message was so powerful, it highlighted the growing rate of male suicide s in our country, a number of those being committed after a female was murdered in a domestic violence situation.
I posted this video as a reel, usimf it as material to spread awareness, the impact was amazing,, it has been shared, commented, and like over 700 times for the 2nd time running.
I've been followed by persons who have shared it and left many comments, the majority, sharing solidarity to the post.
I am very pleased that the message is getting out, our Men need our help, a lot of times domestic abuse occurs there's a root cause on the side of the perpetrator. It's OK to hold them accountable, but no one is born a murder, an abuser, they are created.
In the coming months I will resume my podcast with Sherna Alexander where we would be having discussions on this topic and much more. The link will be posted in group chat.
