Prioritise what is important first

I used to think my father was unfair.

Whenever I wrote my school needs list as an undergrad, he would quietly cross out “clothing allowance”.

But....Yes, he willingly paid the full cost of my textbooks. He also paid for all my course materials.

But clothes? That could wait.

When I asked him why, he would say, “Don’t worry. When you start working, you can buy as many clothes as you want.”

"Make the best of what you have, they will come..."

At the time, I felt bad.

Now, years later, I understand.

Mind you, it's not as though I have a room bursting with clothes presently.

But having the basics, I can create multiple looks from what I own.

I am content. So clothing is not my problem...😄

What my father was really teaching me was the importance of prioritising.

Invest in what builds you. Be content. Improve yourself before you decorate yourself.

Some lessons do not make sense when you are young. They only unfold with time.

"What an elder sees sitting down, a young person cannot see even from the top of an iroko tree".
