“My Asset Map”
The first step is always the hardest, PERSIST!
As I’m putting my glasses on and trying to look beyond the horizon I see that I must persist to get the result I want for myself and my community.
I have a dream that one day my community does not have to suffer any more from the consequences of domestic violence and injustice. That families can live in peace and that no human being in my community has to think deep before they start with a new life.
I have a dream that my people will live in peace without any fear to speak up and most of all to tell the truth. I want us to feel safe everywhere. For a long time the only place to feel safe for me was home.
But one thing I like and will focusing on is the hurting community. As a victim and survivor of domestic violence and injustice I can understand and feel the pain of others. I understand that it IS very difficult, almost impossible to stand up and wipe the dust of our feet and move on.
But there is HOPE……!
I am in contact with the person who started with the “Victim Support Foundation” here in Curacao, Dutch Antilles. Why? Because I want to know the depth of the problem of domestic violence on our island. I need to know what to speak about in our community, including schools, churches, businesses and social groups. For that I need support of everyone who can help me with this noble cause.
Next I will be visiting our parliament as a victim and survivor of domestic violence. As they are representing the Island people I want them to know from the mouth of a victim how it feels to be a victim and also a survivor.
