MAMA

story
Saddled with child at back
Struggling with loads on head
Splashing slippers breast here and there
Singing lullaby on the road to the farm
Singing, working, sweating yet still battling
Sorrowfully feeling for those at school
Sometime singing for the one under the tree
Sorry, her own stomach is rumbling and empty
Smallie cannot get enough breast milk
Still browsing for cheap “akamu”
So that there might be surplus milk
Sh sh sh sh beautiful woman Long Live!
Since the genesis of man, you are the pillar
Sincerely speaking, things done and accepted
Sometimes supported by your effort and power
See the light of the day and endure forever.
Same as the children delivered, nurtured by feeble hands
Spur to become rulers and achievers
Still in small silent and salient voice
Seek ways to appreciate your undaunted courage.
Suddenly an idea sprang up. That woman may live
Sustain the environment and the heritage
Surprisingly the idea was accepted
Startlingly from your end, a woman is appreciated.
Note: Akamu is the local custard in Nigeria, it is corn paste
