Proficience Cadder, Matebeleland South Business Summit and Awards nominee for outstanding community development champion as well as founding director of multi award winning Planet Kadder Academy.
Planet Kadder Academy has adopted the heritage based education 5.0 philosophy whereby the President clearly stated that he wanted a human capital development sector that would contribute to national development. It encourages individuals to innovate and respond to community challenges.
The philosophy was introduced whilst l was still at college training for teacher education at Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Polytechnic but it's beginning to make much sense to the academy now that we are fairly established and have build a strong foundation through constantly engaging the community and addressing various burning issues such as GBV, SRHR,COVID 19 and currently drug and substance through the Kusile MaJahunda Anti-Drug Awareness Campaign.According to the education 5.0 philosophy, education is supposed to harness the flora, fauna, water, minerals and human resources in the country towards innovation and industrialization of the economy. Thus as an arts academy we have made it our mandate to harness human resources in the country towards the attainment of vision 2030 at the same time fighting drug and substance misuse in the community as it is also affecting economic development.
The professional modelling course that is set to begin in January 2024 is targeting to enroll at least twenty models. We shall be offering weekend and holiday classes for school going learners. We shall take this initial course as the training of trainers as we shall also be having crown holders of the academy training professionally so that afterwards they assume the roles of trainers. The models will also be equipped with fashion and design skills as well as beauty therapy. On fashion and design we shall have Mulgan Dalubuhle Sibanda aka Khoi Khoi and on beauty therapy we shall be having The reigning Miss FOG as well as Miss Phoenix 2021 Mellisa Dube.
Besides the professional modelling course,we have two clubs meant to arrest the drug and misuse issue in our community especially amongst the teenagers and youth in Gwanda. We have a Drum Majourites Club where we intend to register at least twenty young girls between the ages of 8-18 years. These girls will be taught peer education, public speaking, theatre and dance as well. For the boys,we have The Real Jahunda Masters Club whereby we are targeting at least twenty boys between the ages of 8-18 years as well. The boys will be trained in leadership, peer education and events management.
We are doing all this under the guidance and mentorship of our mother Ministry, The Ministry of Youth, Sports,Art and Recreation. We are also grateful to the Municipality of Gwanda for backing us in our Anti-Drug Awareness Campaign initiative.Furthermore,we have input from the residents of Gwanda through the Kusile MaJahunda Anti-Drug Awareness Campaign online platform thus we are positive that these initiatives will succeed.
There is nothing for the youth without the youth in the fight against drug and substance misuse and that was raised in one of our online WhatsApp discussions. Therefore,in order to carry out a very effective drug and substance misuse campaign, there is need to involve the youths who are the most affected by this issue. As an academy we saw it best to form a Youth Advisory Council that will spearhead the Anti-Drug Awareness Campaign program and activities. If there is any child within the ages of 15-20 years residing in Gwanda Urban who has a passion for community development and would like to volunteer to work with us, kindly urge and assist them to fill this application form before the 10th of December 2023.
A famous African proverb says that it takes a community to raise a child. Our philosophy as a country is 'umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu' loosely translated to 'l am because we are.' We would like to appreciate and thank our community for the invaluable inputs and insights on the Kusile MaJahunda Anti-Drug Awareness Campaign WhatsApp Platform. We are also grateful for the mentorship and guidance we are receiving from our proud parent,The Ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation.
During our WhatsApp discussions,we identified boredom, lack of age appropriate recreation, facilities and activities, unemployment and too much exposure to social media as some of the causes of drug and substance misuse in our community.AsAslanet Kadder Academy,an award winning arts organisation whose major mission is to fight social ills through art as well as identify and nurture talent from our community, that is why we come up with a couple of programs and activities to arrest this social ill that is dimming the light of our torch bearers. Please read more about them and share your views about how we can improve the programs
Miss Teen Gwanda
This program will be done in patnership with The Ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation and it will be carried out during the 16 days of activism. We shall have a social media campaign on gender based violence as well as drug and substance misuse, and a workshop on peer education facilitated by Zimbabwe National Family Planning* The contest will be held on the 7th of December at the Matebeleland South Agricultural Show Society
Part of the prices include fully paid for professional modelling course for the queen at the academy and partially paid professional modelling course for the runners up.The winners shall be the 2024 Kusile MaJahundaa Anti drug Awareness Campaign Ambassadors and they shall work with the academy dance amongst other activities. Our wish is to represent our town even in various other platforms like the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair and various Agriculture Shows around the country. With your support,we know that we can do it.
Drum Majourites are not all about marching, they include grooming and etiquette, leadership skills, good morals and values amongst others.Furthermore, the curriculum is more inclined towards practical subjects and if our girls are empowered with these skills, they can avail themselves as trainers or resource persons at schools.
Club members shall be encouraged to participate in clean up campaigns as well as fundraising for and visiting orphanages, children's homes and the disabled.Remember, too much work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.Long live the spirit of Ubuntu. We look forward to ideas on how best we can fundraise for our project effectively
