Keep Your Computer Virus-Free and Backup Important Data

Scenario: Imagine you wake up one morning and all the data saved on your Computer has been wiped away or deleted because of a virus or your lovely daughter or son has mistakenly deleted some files?

Having a backup cannot be overemphasized! The primary purpose is to recover data after its loss, be it bydata deletionorcorruption.

Saving important files/data/information offline is also very important. You can save important documents on cloud, external hard disk, Google drive etc.

Tips

1. Be careful on what you download online and do not automatically open email attachments.

2. Install reliable anti-virus software.

3. Update your anti-virus software and scan your hard drive/flash drive(s) regularly.

4. Use a strong password and change your password from time to time especially if you notice that your computer or email account has been hacked.

5. Use safe internet browser.

6. Always log off especially when you use a public computer.

7. Back up your files regularly. If a virus destroys your files you'll be able to replace them with a backup copy.

8. Do not open any files attached to an e-mail if the subject line is questionable or unexpected.

9. Never trust an executable file delivered by e-mail or downloaded from the Internet.

10. When in doubt, do not open, download, or execute any files or e-mail attachments.

Notes

  • USB Flash drive is not very reliable!

  • Make sure for every physical document you have, that there is a backed up copy somewhere!
