The magnitude of the burns she sustained

Mukami(not her real name), a young and naive girl, yet full of trust in her mother to protect her, is now nursing serious injuries. The said 11-year-old girl was defiled by her mother’s supposed brother-in-law and on reporting to her mother she was met with yet another shock of life where her mother burnt her with boiled water to hide evidence of the heinous act meted on her as she had been taken to the hospital and declared a victim of defilement.

The family lives in Mwihoko, Ruiru, Kenya. The mother eloped abandoning her other children in school, where she had taken them to get examined so that she could enroll them in the school. The search has since been on to bring her to book alongside the perpetrator.

The little girl was discovered by a well-wisher who says she has been badly burned and that her genitals are unrecognized; she can’t even urinate. The well-wishers further say the matter has been long reported, as it has been two weeks and she hasn’t gotten the justice she deserves, even after reporting the matter to the children’s office and the police.

They are advocating for little girl's justice who now live in pain and a disrupted future. They went on to say that the family members should be arrested as accomplices of the crime, as they are aware of what transpired yet have been protecting the villain. Protecting a perpetrator is enabling them and threatening the future of many more girls, they don’t stop, they just change their victims.

The fight against gender-based violence is on, and with mothers enabling perpetrators, it might remain a dream that will never be visualized.Rape/defilement is a crime to humanity and a thief of the future. It comes with hurt that cannot be erased and trauma hard to deal with, and now the scar will trying to silence a victim is the height of it all.

Dear mothers, never ignore your child when trying to speak out, some of the men you fall in love with are so damaged that they lack respect for womanhood and humanity, and will do anything just to satisfy their evil desire. This is one case out of the millions not captured by the media where women enable perpetrators of rape/defilement while trying to protect their relationship or family name.

A name can be salvaged but the future once shattered by a deed can hardly be salvaged, as it involves mental health, scars, emotions, and self-esteem, and with defilement, all of the above are tampered with. Since some rise, some part of them is still dead as it was robbed from them when they were young and just discovering womanhood. If you can’t speak, don’t silence their voices, encourage them to fight for themselves and many other girls out here.

I am calling out well-wishers to help her get the justice she deserves, together we can, as she all needs serious medical attention to help in correcting her condition out of the burn she incurred. To the human rights activists, gender based advocates, and world pulse family, kindly help Mukami rise again. She is just a girl, yet so broken by those she trusted the most. I stand with Mukami, justice for Mukami, stop violating women and girls, womanhood is a treasure!
