Volunteer posing with a student at Young German international school complex - Yaounde
In celebration of the International Day of the Girl Child 2023, we organized a week-long body confidence campaign in schools in four different cities.
The campaign comes amidst an urgent need for increased attention and resourcing for the key areas that enable girls to realize their rights and achieve their full potential.
One of them is their mental and physical well-being. The campaign in schools addressed the critical issue of body image and promoted self-acceptance among young girls.
We visited :
Saker Baptist College - Limbe
University of Buea
College St Cecile Bonaberi - Douala
Dewey international school of applied sciences - Douala
Young German international school complex - Yaounde
Government high school mile 16 - Buea
We spoke with over 2000 youths and distributed flyers.
With social media constantly presenting unrealistic beauty standards, it is crucial to empower girls to embrace their unique bodies and cultivate a positive self-image.
We are grateful for all our volunteers who shared their own stories and experiences, providing guidance and support to the girls.
To extend the impact beyond the campaign, Empower Her Network Africa is looking at partnering with schools to integrate body confidence education into their curricula.
We believe that by investing in the action needed to bring about change, we are moving towards a world where girls can embrace their bodies and cultivate self-confidence. They can overcome societal pressures and become strong, independent individuals who can shape government policy and spending to inform the rules and norms by which businesses should operate, and to direct the priorities for new research and innovations.
We look forward to the next campaign on the Day of the African Child.
