Connect & Nest: Rebuilding Community, Wellbeing, and Women-Led Livelihoods in Nepal

Nepal is a country rich in culture, nature, and the wisdom present in every community yet many people today experience burnout, isolation, and disconnection, especially youth and women. While urban cafés and digital spaces are growing, they often lack depth, inclusion, and purpose. At the same time, rural communities struggle with limited income opportunities despite having strong cultural and natural assets.

Through the journey of building our startups facing challenges, learning, and growing we have already begun to see the gaps people experience in their everyday lives. Many are not lacking effort, but spaces for connection, expression, and wellbeing. Through our programs and events, we are already creating those spaces. This initiative builds on work that is already underway, allowing us to deepen and expand its impact.

Women-led initiatives in Nepal face structural challenges:

  1. Limited funding access
  2. Male-dominated decision-making / Cultural restrictions
  3. Lack of safe, visible community platforms
  4. Undervaluation of emotional wellbeing, care work, and indigenous knowledge

This initiative responds to these gaps by combining community space, nature-based experiences, and playful mindfulness, led by women and rooted in Nepali culture with relevance far beyond Nepal.

About NovaNest

NovaNest was born from a simple belief: growth doesn’t have to be serious, silent, or isolating. NovaNest designs outdoor and experiential programs that blend:

  1. mindfulness
  2. personal growth
  3. leadership
  4. play, movement, and conversation

Instead of rigid practices or forced motivation, NovaNest creates spaces where clarity and connection happen naturally through walking, laughter, shared reflection, and nature.

NovaNest also intentionally works with local communities, homestays, and cultural knowledge holders during retreats ensuring growth is mutual, not extractive.

About Connect Café

  1. Connect Café is a community-driven café envisioned as more than a place for food and drinks. It is a social anchor: a space where people can:
  2. meet others with shared interests
  3. form communities around hiking, creativity, wellness, leadership
  4. exchange ideas and opportunities
  5. feel a sense of belonging
  6. Inspired by travel, trekking, and community life, Connect Café exists to make finding “your people” easier in everyday life.

How NovaNest and Connect Café Work Together

This collaboration is designed as a living ecosystem, not two parallel projects.

Connect Café functions as:

  1. the entry point: a safe, accessible urban space
  2. a hub for gatherings, conversations, and community mapping
  3. a place where curiosity turns into participation

NovaNest functions as:

  1. the experiential depth: outdoor programs, retreats, mindful experiences
  2. the bridge between urban curiosity and rural connection
  3. the facilitator of reflection, leadership, and emotional awareness

Why Collaboration Strengthens the Impact

This initiative is intentionally collaborative.

  1. Connect Café brings the physical space, hospitality experience, and community-building vision.
  2. NovaNest contributes program design, mindfulness practices, experiential learning, and facilitation rooted in emotional wellbeing and travel.

Together, we create something:

  1. A café that is not only social, but transformational
  2. A community space that balances joy, reflection, nature, and growth
  3. A sustainable model that blends economic viability with social impact
  4. Creating a safe space and opportunities for women:

Connect cafe : a physical space for women to come together through events to grow, learn and connect.

NovaNest : Creating awareness and opportunities for the rural areas of marginalized women through the workshop specifically designed for the community.

Employment Generation & Rural Livelihoods

Our retreats and experiences intentionally partner with:

  1. local homestays
  2. trekking and nature guides
  3. women-run food providers
  4. artisans and storytellers

This:

  1. generates income in rural areas
  2. supports women’s economic participation
  3. values local culture as knowledge, not entertainment

Instead of building resorts or external structures, we use what already exists, strengthening local economies with dignity.

Preserving Nature, Animals, and Indigenous Wisdom

Nepal’s nature is not just scenery: it is a place where people learn so much, mountains and hills itself are a healer, and holy heritage.

Our experiences:

  1. promote respectful interaction with forests, animals, and land
  2. include conversations around environmental responsibility
  3. honor indigenous practices and wisdom, including traditional healers and Jhankris, as cultural knowledge holders (with consent and respect)

This preserves culture by living it, not displaying it.

Social Awareness & Community Education

Through gatherings and retreats, we will host awareness programs on:

  1. menstrual hygiene and dignity
  2. emotional wellbeing
  3. gender respect and leadership
  4. adolescence life skills : healthy relationships, emotional wellbeing, and substance - free choices.

These conversations happen informally and safely, reducing shame and resistance : especially important in conservative or mixed-gender settings.

Cross-Cultural Exchange & Global Relevance

By welcoming:

  1. travelers
  2. international collaborators
  3. cultural exchange participants

This initiative becomes a space for:

  1. learning each other’s cultures
  2. breaking stereotypes
  3. building empathy and peace

Use of Funds (USD 1,250 – Collaborative)

The funds will support:

  1. Community research and listening sessions
  2. Community events and gatherings
  3. Materials and facilitation for mindfulness-based activities
  4. Documentation and storytelling of impact
  5. Partial support for rural partners and homestays
  6. Expenses for finding different women from the rural areas of marginalized women where we can contribute them the women hygienes according to their needs.

Funds will be used collaboratively to support both founders’ roles and shared outcomes.
