When Power Harms: A Boss with a Heart of Flawed Design

Illustration on stopping GBV

I worked under a boss

with a heart of flawed design.

To many, he seemed kind,

empathetic, understanding,

but to women, his shine

carried danger.

His gaze followed me,

a hunger I could not escape,

a predatory grace

that made my chest ache.

His office felt like

a den of hidden intent.

Invitations came

under the guise of mentorship,

but respect was never meant.

I learned to fear his words,

to navigate his eyes,

to shrink myself quietly,

to survive the disguise.

I was not alone

in this shadowed place.

Others whispered,

carrying the same fear,

the same unease.

Finally, the organization saw the truth.

He packed his things,

and his reign of “perfect boss” ended.

Relief washed over me,

but the echo remained.

His presence lingered in memories,

the perfume he wore

a bittersweet reminder.

The corridors to his office

still heavy and dark with the weight

of what had been even when the rays of lights seem to trickle in.

This piece of writing is

not for shame, but for change,

to name the harm,

to challenge the misuse of authority,

to honor the voices that were silenced.

Every survivor deserves justice.

Every story deserves to be heard.
