“UNMUTE HER VOICE: A Journey of Protection, Dignity, Justice and Intentional Empowerment”

As The 16 Days of Activism, came to an end, I found myself answering a different question: what comes after the hashtags and the marches? For me, the answer came from a quiet and painful place — words I had swallowed for years and the public harm done to my baby sister, Shushu.

I am Akuot Sarah, founder of EmpowerHer Nile Foundation. Today, 11 December 2025, I launch UNMUTE HER VOICE: A Journey of Protection, Dignity, Justice — an advocacy and protection initiative that will confront digital violence, gender manipulation, social silencing, and the many pressures that keep girls quiet.

This initiative grew from personal truth. I lived through early silence and unfair expectations; I watched how families choose reputation over justice; I watched technology become a weapon against young women’s dignity. When Shushu was targeted online—defamed, humiliated, and left without protection—it became impossible to stay silent.

UNMUTE HER VOICE is a survivor-centered roadmap: digital safety training, community dialogues, psychosocial support, family sensitization, legal documentation and partnership with authorities, and leadership programs that build agency and autonomy. We begin with storytelling, then move to systems — training schools, engaging ICT bodies, and creating reporting mechanisms so survivors are heard and perpetrators answer for their actions.

To survivors: your story matters. To families and leaders: your role is vital. To partners and allies: we need your resources, your platforms, and your courage.

This is not about one person. It is about shifting norms so no girl’s life is disrupted by shame and abuse. It is about making dignity the default. It is a movement, beginning now.
