Unlocking new skills in my academic journey

Hi everyone. I would to share with you all, what I've learned in the first semester of my final year of studies.

As the semester draws to a close and we have just a few weeks left, I’ve been reflecting on the courses I’ve taken from Year 1 to now. Many of them are related, but this semester, one unit stood out: Social Media and Digital Communication. I found this unit particularly engaging because it was very practical. Yes, my other units are practical as well, but this one was something new to me. I had the opportunity to analyze different social media platforms including, Facebook pages, YouTube channels, and LinkedIn profiles.

I was introduced to social media metrics and different social media metrics tools like SproutSocial, Hootsuite, etc., for analyzing social media and YouTube data tools for YouTube channels. Additionally, I created my own YouTube channel and LinkedIn account and used analytics to review my account and performance after making a post.

Before studying this unit, my social media activity was mostly limited to scrolling and interacting with others’ content. I never truly understood why some posts or accounts performed better than others. This semester, I learned a lot about social media analytics—why some posts on platforms like LinkedIn, Facebook, or YouTube receive more reactions and engagement, and why certain social media accounts perform better than others.

I've explored content creation, social media strategy, analytics, and emerging social media trends. These skills are not only interesting but also valuable for my future career, and I’m excited to bring these lifelong skills into the workforce.

All in all I can say that now I have the confidence to do social media analytics.
