Birth is accompanied with merry making, love, care and protection.

Why is old age accompanied with loneliness, neglect and desertion?

Young children are seen as pillars of support for parent's old age.

Why are ageing parents seen as burden and liability?

Issues that glare at India's ageing citizens are both practical and personal-

Homelessness, poverty, health and mental health, nutrition, loneliness, and safety being the practical concerns but what equally demands our discernment is

What is personal

Humiliation, the neglect and sense of loss of dignity.

We must realize fully the responsibility of our generation and the one coming after us towards elders in the family, in the society.

Can we take baby steps, one at a time ?

Supporting Nightingales Medical Trust through the TCS World 10K Bengaluru 2026 is that first step for me.

NMT's contribution in delivering quality of life to elders is pathbreaking be it in dementia and medical care, caring for the homeless and destitute elders, running programs for the marginalized elders in Bengaluru slums, promoting active ageing across old age homes in the city, running elders helpline to address elder abuse, empowerment and livelihood through second careers for senior professionals.
