I was not born into comfort; I was born into limitation. In my world, survival came before dreams, and a girl’s future was often planned quietly for her rather than by her. Education was allowed, but only to a certain point—as if my mind had an expiry date. I grew up watching struggle shape the faces of the people I love. There were nights when school fees were a burden too heavy for my family, nights when I lay awake wondering if my dreams were selfish.
