Starting Where We Are: Community Action for the Earth

Hello World Pulse community,

My name is Liz, writing from Cameroon. I am the founder of For Earth’s Sake (FES), a grassroots initiative focused on environmental education, waste reduction, and community cleanups.

In my community, environmental challenges are very visible: plastic waste along streets and waterways, air pollution due to the practice of burning piles of waste, limited and inconsistent waste management systems, and little environmental education, especially for children. But what has stood out to me is not only the problem; it is the potential of people when they are informed, included, and encouraged.

It's wonderful to know that so many people desire the good, look ahead to a bright future and things being better for the environment. All they need is the tools and the right connection with like-minded people.

Through FES, I work with volunteers, young people, who believe that caring for the environment is a shared responsibility. We organize cleanups, engage children through simple environmental learning activities, and encourage everyday actions that make a real difference at the community level.

This work has taught me that environmental change does not always begin with large resources or policies. Often, it begins with awareness, willingness, and people choosing to act together, right where they are, doing the little they can.

I joined World Pulse to learn from women leading change in different contexts, to share experiences from grassroots environmental work in Cameroon, and to connect around practical, community-led climate solutions.

Thank you for welcoming me into this space. I look forward to learning from your stories and growing together.

In solidarity,

Liz
