Sisters for HER is a school-based mentoring outreach designed to create safe, intentional spaces where girls are heard, guided, and empowered by women who have walked the path before them.

Implemented in commemoration of International Women’s Day (IWD) 2026, this initiative brings structured mentorship conversations directly into secondary schools in the FCT, Abuja. The outreach will directly mentor 100 in-school adolescent girls across selected schools through structured discussions using the Books Over Boys booklet as the core guide.

Many girls in the FCT are navigating early romantic pressures and identity confusion, often at the expense of their education and long-term aspirations. Sisters for HER responds directly to these realities with clarity, structure, and compassionate mentorship.

Project Goal

To directly mentor 100 in-school adolescent girls across selected secondary schools in the FCT through structured discussions using the Books Over Boys guide, strengthening their commitment to education, self-worth, and purpose.Girls today face a lot of challenges that can affect their safety, confidence, and ability to stay in school. Online, they deal with risks like cyberbullying, pressure to share personal information, and exposure to inappropriate content. Offline, they may face unsafe situations in school or their communities, peer pressure, or even threats that can make them feel scared or unsure of themselves. These challenges don’t just put girls at risk, they can hold them back from reaching their full potential.

The Safer Girls Project is designed to address these challenges head-on. It gives girls the knowledge and skills to protect themselves, make smart choices, and feel confident in everyday situations. Through interactive workshops, group discussions, and role-play exercises, girls learn practical ways to stay safe, how to handle difficult situations, and how to stand up for their rights.

The project also focuses on building confidence and leadership. Girls are encouraged to speak up, share their experiences, and support one another. By connecting with mentors and peers, they create a network of encouragement and guidance that helps them navigate school, social pressures, and digital spaces more safely.

Ultimately, the Safer Girls Project is giving girls the tools, confidence, and awareness they need to feel empowered in every part of their lives. It’s about helping them make choices that protect them, keep them in school, and open doors to their dreams.

Each participating girl will:

  1. Receive a copy of the Books Over Boys booklet
  2. Engage meaningfully in small group dialogue
  3. Make a personal commitment to prioritize her education and long-term aspirations

  1. 100 girls mentored through structured, intentional conversations
