Sisters for HER after speaking to the young girls

Beyond The Classroom Foundation Empowers 100 Girls Through Sisters for HER

To mark International Women’s Day, we implemented the Sisters for HER Project at Junior Secondary School Aleyita, where we engaged 100 amazing adolescent girls in a mentorship session focused on education, self-worth, and making intentional life choices. From the moment we started, the atmosphere felt safe, open, and engaging. We created a space where the girls could speak freely, ask questions, and truly be heard. At the center of our conversation was the Books Over Boys message, reminding them that their education, growth, and future should always come first.

We broke the girls into five mentoring circles, with 20 girls in each group and two mentors guiding the conversations. This made it easier for everyone to connect, share their thoughts, and have more meaningful discussions.

In those circles, we talked about real things, peer pressure, staying focused in school, setting boundaries, and building confidence. We didn’t just talk at them; we talked with them. Through stories, examples, and honest conversations, the girls began to reflect on how the choices they make now can shape their future.

One of the most powerful moments was hearing them share their thoughts and experiences so openly. By the end of the session, many of them spoke about feeling more confident, more aware, and more determined to stay committed to their education.

For us, this is why Sisters for HER matters. It’s not just about one session it’s about creating spaces where girls feel seen, supported, and empowered to make better choices for their lives.

Through this project, we continue to push our commitment to ensuring that every girl, no matter her background, has the support, knowledge, and confidence she needs to thrive.
