From digital spaces to workplaces, classrooms to homes — women and girls across the world face new and old forms of gender-based violence (GBV). Yet every day, survivors, advocates, and allies are rewriting these narratives with courage, creativity, and collective power.
We want to hear from you. Share your story or initiative about GBV by 31 December! You could be selected for a World Pulse Story or Initiative Award, which include promotion on World Pulse and Imaara Foundation channels and an honorarium between $100 and $300 US!
What are the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence?
The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is an annual global campaign that runs from November 25 (International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) to December 10 (Human Rights Day), uniting individuals and organizations worldwide to raise awareness, demand accountability, and take action to end all forms of gender-based violence.
Together, we’ll center survivors’ voices, highlight systemic barriers, and reimagine justice, safety, and empowerment for all.
Why This Matters
Gender-based violence is one of the most pervasive human rights violations worldwide. It extends far beyond physical harm — manifesting in digital abuse, economic deprivation, legal injustice, and social exclusion.
This campaign recognizes that ending GBV requires more than laws and policies — it requires listening to lived experiences. It requires getting justice for survivors because lack of justice gives more strength to perpetrators and disempower survivors. It also requires amplifying survivor-led change, and transforming systems that allow violence to persist.
Your story can help shift this conversation. By sharing your lived experience, initiative, or vision for change, you help others see that justice, healing, and empowerment can take many forms — and that every act of resistance matters.
How to Participate
We invite you to share a story, reflection, or initiative that responds to any of these prompts — or to share any experience connected to the theme of GBV and resilience. To participate, you can write your story, upload a video or audio clip, or share an artistic expression. You can also share your Initiative addressing violence against women or girls.
Here are some themes and ideas to get you started:
- The Ripple Effect of Digital Violence: How has online abuse — stalking, doxxing, cyberbullying, or deepfake content — affected your life or community? What steps can we take to make digital spaces safer for all?
- Justice Beyond the Courtroom: How do you define justice? What moments of healing or community support have felt more meaningful than a legal verdict?
- I Witnessed Violence: Here’s What I Did: Tell us about a moment you intervened — online or offline — to stop violence or support someone in danger.
- Difficulties in Getting Justice: What challenges have you or others faced while navigating systems like the police, courts, or institutions? How can they do better?
- Teaching Machines NOT to Harm: Have you used technology, coding, or AI to address online harassment or promote safety? How are women shaping tech for good?
- I Survived: The Power of Economic Empowerment and Tech Entrepreneurship: How have you — or others you know — built new livelihoods or started businesses after surviving abuse?
- Trauma Did NOT Stop Me: How has education or knowledge creation helped you reclaim power, rebuild identity, or inspire others?
- From Experience to Evidence: How are survivors leading research, policy advocacy, or digital innovation to change how we understand and prevent violence?
