"There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you." — Maya Angelou
At World Pulse, we believe in the power of your voice. We also know what it costs to hold a story in.
This May, we have three story themes: one for Menstrual Hygiene Day on the 28th, one on the climate crisis, and one for the news unfolding wherever you happen to live.
When you share on World Pulse, your story can be selected for a Story or Initiative Award*, which comes with promotion and an honorarium of up to $300 USD.
Menstrual Health
May 28 is Menstrual Hygiene Day.
For too many women and girls, periods still come wrapped in silence and stigma. Some miss school. Some are sent away from home during their period. In many places, pads cost more than people can afford, and pain that should be taken seriously gets dismissed.
If any of this resonates, your story matters — whether it's from your own life or the work you're doing in your community to change how this gets talked about.
Earth Emergency
You don't need anyone to explain the climate crisis to you because you're already living it.
You've seen the seasons turn unpredictable. Days when the rain doesn't come, or comes all at once. Land that no longer gives what it once did. And still, the women living closest to this are often the last to be heard.
If this is your reality, write what you're seeing, what you're holding onto, and what you're trying to protect or change.
Stories Behind the Headlines
There are stories the world watches from a distance, and others that never make it to the news at all.
If you're living through it, your story matters. Reporters can only get so close. You're already experiencing the reality — how it's affecting your life, your family, the people around you.
Start with what you've seen, what you've felt, or what others might not notice at first glance.
Want to write about something else?
If your story doesn’t fit those categories, that’s welcome too.
Write the story that’s been waiting to be told. The thing you've been thinking about is probably the one we should be reading.
Share the story only you can tell.
About World Pulse Awards
Story Awards honor authentic stories that come from the heart, open our eyes, and speak boldly. We're not looking for perfect grammar or formatting. We're here for real stories, told in your own words. Want to know more about what we look for when awarding stories? Check out the FAQ.
