Pasifika Peace Talanoa with the Pacific Islands Forum

When I say "Redesign the Table" it is because from I have learnt from diverse women and feminist leaders, including my mother, that we do not have to simply accept the status quo.

Instead we can purposefully address power imbalances, ensure meaningful participation and leadership, addressing the root causes of inequalities, conflict & violence.

And so the 2 #PasifikaPeaceTalanoa events hosted by GPPAC Pacific & Pacific Women Mediators Network with Pacific Islands Forum & Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (GPPAC) Executive Director Zahid Mövlazadä was a table where a diverse group of Pacific Island Experts on Gender, Peacebuilding and Security sat.

We had travelled from across our Blue Ocean Continent to prepare to be at the table through cross-movement learning.

It was an investment in time to connect, listen and reflect to develop collective strategies for a range of stakeholders including governments & policy makers.

It was a collective affirmation of the legacy of Pacific Island peacebuilding including the Nuclear Free & Independent Pacific Movement and traditional, Indigenous and local peacebuilding practice.

Participants worked together before representatives of the group presented intentionally intergenerational and intersectional recommendations based on decades of work.
