Reaching 5,328 Students: Our Journey with the Pure Path Sensitisation Programme

In February 2026, our team embarked on a journey that reminded me how important it is to speak with young people about identity, choices, and the pressures they face while growing up.

Through the Pure Path Sensitisation Programme, we visited 17 secondary schools across Lagos, Iddo, Ikere, Usi, and Ado-Ekiti. By the end of the outreach, we had engaged 5,328 students in conversations about sexual identity, peer influence, personal boundaries, human trafficking and responsible decision-making.

One of the most powerful moments during the sessions was when we shared a story about a girl named Seun, a church choir member and a pastor’s daughter. Influenced by a friend, she attended a party where she began a relationship that eventually led to a private moment being recorded and later shared on social media.

When we asked the students what lessons they learned from the story, their responses were thoughtful and honest. Many spoke about the dangers of peer pressure, the importance of protecting their dignity, and how quickly private actions can become public in today’s digital world.

Moments like these reminded us why this work matters.

The students also learned the Pure Path theme song, which added energy to the sessions and helped reinforce the message that their future is shaped by the choices they make today.

However, the journey was not without challenges. In one school, the administration told us that only SS3 students were allowed to receive education on sexual matters, so we could not address the entire school. In other schools, scheduling conflicts meant that only junior students were released because other programmes were taking place at the same time.

We also faced limited funding and did not have enough volunteers to support the project fully.

Despite these challenges, reaching 5,328 young people across these communities felt deeply meaningful. Every conversation, every question from the students, and every reflection they shared reminded us that young people are eager for guidance and safe spaces to talk about the realities they face.

This experience strengthened my belief that community-based education is essential in helping young people navigate peer pressure, digital risks, and questions about their identity.

As we reflect on this journey, we hope to continue expanding the Pure Path initiative and to reach even more young people in the future.

Our young people deserve knowledge, guidance, and the confidence to make decisions that protect their dignity and their future.
