Phoenix

Rays behind the clouds
Rays behind the clouds

When the year 2020 approached, I longingly looked forward to its promises. With a resolute determination to become a better version of myself (as has been the usual new year resolution trend), I mapped out a bucket list. You could see the bounce in my steps, the rhythm in my gait and ambition in my eyes.

Suddenly, we were struck with a global assassin, out to get our throats and muffle our breaths. I felt betrayed and deceived; that this notable year had plans of its own was audacious.

Yet, the pandemic played a key role in my life. It felt like everything else paused, then began again, but this time in slow mo. The whole family was home, talking, laughing, throwing fits together. For the first time, I paid attention to my siblings, noting that they had personalities, not the annoying mash up I'd categorized them as.

I found the time to rediscover writing, and reconcile the wicked pessimist with the the shy romantic personas I was fond of creating in my imaginative fictions.

Many other stuff happened, although not as significant as you'd expect, but they did happen.

My bucket list was full of cob webs and a hole or two by the end of naughty 2020. However, I did other meaningful things I didn't even think of or expect I was capable of doing.

I guess all I'm trying to say, is that we can't always plan our future. Even with looming threats of a variant COVID-19 virus, dragging with it a possibility of a life 'stand-still', new and refreshing things will arise from it.

From tough times emerge stronger people, full of purpose and renewed perspectives to life. Unlike the tempting urge to succumb to defeat, dismay, and worry, find in yourself the warrior you are.

Dark clouds are temporary, the ashes too. But out of the gloom comes a sunny fix, out of the ashes a regal phoenix.
