Online Psychosocial Training and Support for Survivors of Trafficking
A Female Returned Migrants Network and Liluye, World Pulse Collaboration
Building on the success of The Thrive Tribe (TTT) - our transformative online coaching and personal development pilot for trafficking survivors in 2023-24 - Liluye (a NGO / 501c3) and Female Returned Migrants Network/FREMNET (a survivor-led organization focused on anti-trafficking and gender-based violence, rooted in community action and lived experience) are launching a condensed version of this initiative. The program will also be supported/facilitated by two other World Pulse members…Liluye COO, Monica Griffin @monica.elizabeth365 and former TTT cohort #1 facilitator, Emma Lees @Emma-Lees.
With former TTT participant and FREMNET founder, Chylian Ify Azuh, leading this new program is designed specifically for human trafficking survivor leaders and community ambassadors, equipping them with the self-awareness, resilience, and leadership skills needed to break through personal barriers and amplify their impact. Through structured training, unwavering support, and a thriving community, we aim to empower those who are already uplifting others.
With this grant, we will offer a free, one-month intensive in-person coaching experience for 20 survivors in Nigeria. This initiative is all about nurturing their mental health, giving them clarity and confidence in their decisions, and guiding them toward a purposeful path.
This is a priority because the mental health of survivors is usually not taken into consideration, leaving survivors with more stress and burnout. TTT provides survivors with a safe space to heal, unburden, and dream of all that is possible when we permit ourselves.
By providing this hands-on support, we are not just helping them heal, we are empowering them to lead and thrive, creating lasting change in their lives and communities.
Together, we are shaping a future where survivors become leaders, advocates, and changemakers in their own right.
TTT will deliver in-person (for the survivor leaders) and through a free and accessible online platform (either Whatsapp or Zoom) for the program facilitators. It will consist of three transformative modules, blending psychosocial support, personal development tools, and practical self-awareness practices.
Program Overview:
Module 1: Cultivating Self-Compassion and Acceptance
Bringing self-compassion and self-acceptance to ourselves and learning powerful daily practices to nurture self-kindness and emotional well-being.
Module 2: Strengthening Self-Trust and Awareness
Deepen self-understanding by exploring values, personal patterns, and the hidden cycles of self-sabotage through an insightful online tool - proven effective in the previous cohort of TTT.
Module 3: Overcoming Inner Barriers
Recognizing and overcoming our inner criticism, fears, limiting beliefs and self-sabotage with simple practices and actionable strategies.
Beyond the Modules:
A Survivor’s Voice: Survivor Leader Testimony
Three past TTT participants will share their story of resilience and leadership, offering real-world inspiration. Their contribution will be honored with fair compensation.
A Supportive Online Community
Participants will engage in a safe, empowering space with discussion groups, guided reflections, and resources across four weeks - fostering connection, encouragement, and growth.
Celebrating Growth and Impact
At the end of the journey, participants will share their biggest personal and professional breakthroughs, takeaways and action plans for implementation in their community. It could be through video, writing, art, poetry, or music, expressing their transformation in a way that resonates with them. These reflections will serve as inspiration for themselves and future leaders.
By empowering survivor leaders, we are not only strengthening individuals, we are creating a ripple effect of change, resilience, and hope across communities.
Measuring Growth and Impact:
Throughout the program, we will track participant’s progress toward personal and professional empowerment milestones. This will be self-defined at the start of their journey. Regular check-ins at the beginning, middle, and end will provide a supportive space to reflect on growth, challenges, and achievements.
This feedback will not only shape each participant’s experience but also guide our final program evaluation. Insights gained will help refine TTT and inform the future of our survivor empowerment initiatives, ensuring they remain impactful, relevant, and deeply transformative.
Expanding Reach and Creating a Ripple Effect:
This initiative will be shared through our network of 60+ partner organizations and outreach platforms, ensuring it reaches those who typically lack access to psychosocial and personal development support, especially in other African countries and Asia, where survivor follow-up programs are scarce. Beyond supporting survivor leaders, this program will also serve organizations working in trafficking prevention and survivor empowerment, extending its impact to vulnerable communities.
Our goal is to directly empower at least 20 survivor leaders within Ikorodu area of Nigeria. Each leader will commit to sharing their learning with at least 10 others - either within their community or through partner organizations – creating a ripple effect that reaches anywhere between 100 to 200 survivors.
Every participant will verbally agree to pay it forward, ensuring that the knowledge, tools, and empowerment gained continue to spread, fostering lasting change in communities worldwide.
Impact and Learning Updates:
We are committed to providing regular updates on our progress, including:
Participation and Impact – The number of registered participants, survivor leaders reached and cascading reach in survivor communities.
Partner Engagement – How our partners are supporting and amplifying this initiative.
Outcomes and Stories – Key insights and successes (shared with participant consent).
Action and Implementation – The commitments made by survivor leaders and organizations to drive change in their communities.
Lessons for the Future – What we’ve learned from this program to refine future initiatives and support others in the field.
By sharing these updates, we aim to foster transparency, inspire collaboration, and ensure that the impact of The Thrive Tribe continues to grow.
