My journey

Hello

My name is Balsam Omer, a young Sudanese woman whose life changed when the war in Sudan forced me to leave my home and university behind. I fled to Uganda searching for safety and a chance to start again. The journey wasn’t easy, but even through the pain and loss, I carried a strong belief that my life wasn’t ending — it was simply taking a new direction.

When I arrived in Uganda, everything felt uncertain. But I chose not to give up. I joined youth and peacebuilding programs, learned new skills, and discovered my own strength. I participated in several initiatives, including peacebuilding activities and the Peacebuilders Exchange Program, where I raised my voice and represented young people affected by conflict.

Even though I wasn’t able to finish university, I believe that a certificate isn’t what defines a person’s worth. I am still fighting for a better life every day, creating my own opportunities, and trying to inspire others who are going through struggles similar to mine.

My story isn’t over yet… I’m still writing it with resilience, hope, and the belief that tomorrow can be brighter.
