In Paris Sumud held meeting to end Sudan war

On Friday evening, January 23, 2026, a delegation from the Civil Democratic Alliance of Revolutionary Forces (Sumud), headed by the Alliance's Chairman, Dr. Abdalla Hamdok, met with the French Institute of International Relations in Paris. The meeting addressed the evolving situation in Sudan and the efforts underway to end the war and achieve comprehensive peace.

Professor Babiker Faisal, a member of the delegation and head of Sumud's Foreign Relations Committee, stated in an exclusive interview with the Alliance's media committee that the meeting reviewed Sumud's vision for ending the war, achieving peace, and establishing a sustainable, democratic, civilian government that meets the aspirations of the Sudanese people.

Faisal explained that the meeting discussed the efforts of the Quartet Mechanism and the necessity of ensuring its success. He emphasized the importance of linking the ceasefire and the delivery of humanitarian aid to the political process to address the root causes of the crisis and avoid relying solely on temporary solutions.

He added that the Sumud delegation presented its vision for the political process under the auspices of the African Union and in partnership with international and regional stakeholders, including the United Nations, the European Union, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), and the League of Arab States, thereby enhancing the prospects for reaching a comprehensive political settlement. According to Babiker Faisal, the meeting also addressed the stance towards the Muslim Brotherhood and its political wing in Sudan, and the role it plays in obstructing peace efforts, emphasizing the necessity of designating it as a terrorist group.

During the meeting, the delegation from the Sumud Alliance reiterated its condemnation of all negative foreign interventions that contribute to escalating the war, reaffirming the catastrophic repercussions of the conflict and the resulting humanitarian crisis, considered the largest in the world. This necessitates exerting maximum international pressure on the warring parties to end the conflict immediately.
