Survival as a Single mother
My name is Evelyn Samuella Addo, and my journey has been shaped by resilience, courage, and an unwavering determination to create a better future for myself and others.
At the age of 22, I was forced into marriage because I had a child. What was meant to be a solution quickly became a source of deep emotional pain. Two years into the marriage, I faced constant rejection and hostility from my husband’s family, who believed I had trapped their son. The environment became mentally unbearable, and I found myself losing not only peace but also a sense of self-worth.
Choosing my mental health and dignity, I made the difficult decision to file for divorce. With no stability, I moved back to my father’s house and lived in a small single room. It was a humbling and painful period, but I refused to let my circumstances define my future or limit my dreams.
As a single mother, I worked relentlessly to provide a better life for my son, who is now eight years old. Every challenge strengthened my resolve to rise—not only for him, but for myself. Though I do not have everything today, I am proud of how far I have come and the strength I have built through adversity.
My experiences opened my eyes to the struggles faced by young girls and teenage mothers who often lack support, understanding, and opportunity. This inspired me to found Nsa Da Mu Aid, an NGO dedicated to supporting young girls, teenage mothers, and vulnerable women by empowering them with skills, hope, and a sense of belonging.
Alongside this work, I ran Eve’s Pizza Restaurant, which helped support my NGO activities and provided training opportunities for young people. Unfortunately, due to financial challenges and location issues, the restaurant is currently closed. However, my vision remains strong. I am determined to reopen it—not just as a business, but as a training and empowerment hub for young girls and teenage mothers who are facing even harsher realities than I once did.
My story is one of survival, growth, and purpose. Every hardship I endured has become fuel for my mission: to ensure that no girl or young mother feels trapped, voiceless, or without hope. I believe that with the right support, every woman has the power to rewrite her story—just as I continue to rewrite mine.
