first-story

I was browsing through this site and first of all i was intimidated by all of the wonderful women here who have done such amazing things! I felt a little inadequate to say the least. But then i started thinking. Each one of us has our own unique gift that we can offer to help each other step into our feminine power. We dont all have to be doctors, lawyers, activists... the list goes on.
I believe ( I have to believe) that I have contributed in my own way to help women become empowered. I do this through movement.
I can't remember a time when I have not moved. I dont think I ever walked as a baby. I just got up and danced. I haven't stopped. Well tell a lie... I did stop for a while, As a professional dancer my stuffing literally got knocked out of me by the dancing world at large. It didn't seem to matter that I had a gift, all that mattered is that I didn't fit the bill. I was always too tall, too fat, too dark . too asian, too european. Things that had no bearing on the fact that I could move beautifully.
My life changed so dramatically when I became a mother. To cut a long story short, I now teach pre and post natal Pilates. BUT what I really teach women is how to move to remain strong yet supple, flexible and graceful, especially during pregnancy. I teach women how to take charge of their bodies and love the emerging belly and know that THIS is what it's all about. Not the buff body, the tight butt, the strong arms. As women, we have a unique way of remaining fit that doesnt require us to look like men.
Ours is a deeper, quieter strength that comes from within. our strength is in our intuition, our flexibility of mind, our ability to let go of the control, our openess and honesty and authenticity. All these points are brought into fruition at the time of labor and delivery and thsi special time should not be given over to drugs and surgery. This is the birth of us as mothers... not just to our children but to a new world. It is up to us to take responsibility for our bodies, our births and our lives. We just have too much to lose if we don't.
Much love to all of you out there. I am so excited to be here.
