I can't keep calm....... I am so excited World Pulse sisters. Two of my babies just finished there NYSC service year better and stronger.๐
So back then, during my service year in the Nigerian Youth Service Corp Scheme(NYSC) I wanted to learn web design, HTML etc. But I did not have a laptop.
I remember how difficult it was wanting to learn, but not having the basic tool to start.
Now, I see the same reality around me.
Many young women are willing to learn digital skills, but cannot afford a laptop. In Nigeria, owning a laptop as a young girl is not easyโit is almost a luxury if you don't come from a rich family.
That was why I started the Digital Access for Corp Members initiative last year under my foundation.
A savings-based model where corp members can gradually work towards owning a laptop, while receiving support to make it possible.
I believe that when you put a tool in a girl's hand who is ready to work, it will feed her tomorrow.
Today, I am seeing the first results of that decision.
Two of the young ladies from the initiative have just completed their service year.
When they started, they had no laptops. They never taught this was possible but through the savings scheme and support from the initiative, they were able to get there laptops delivered to them within three months in service
Now, today, they are passing out with more than just a certificate.
Princess has gained some certifications in Cybersecurity and Excel.๐
Ekankumo has learnt Video editing and Graphic Design.๐
They now have both the tool and the skill to keep going, start earning and growing online.
They now can make better decisions with what they have seen online..
This is just the beginning.
I know it's small but I so proud of them and it matters to me that what I couldn't get another girl is getting and doing better. This dream is bigger but am taking it one step at a time.
I know what it feels like to be ready to learnโฆ and not have access. To want to buy something for yourself as a girl but looking for urgent 2k( Nigerian lingo) from an Uncle , father etc .
This is how change begins and why funding her grassroot initiative for women is important because women give a lot.
PS: You can check my initiative last update to watch the videos of when they received there Laptops.
