Support between women, to me, means standing in the gap for one another when the world becomes heavy. It means reminding another woman or girl that she is not alone, that her voice matters, and that her dreams are valid. When women support women, we do more than help individuals—we change narratives and build stronger communities.
Through my leadership with Usbin Women Initiative, I have had the privilege of creating safe spaces where girls can learn, grow, and speak openly about issues that affect their lives.
One experience that continues to stay with me happened during one of our advocacy visits to a secondary school. During a discussion on menstrual health and self-confidence, a quiet girl at the back of the classroom slowly raised her hand. With hesitation in her voice, she explained that she often missed school during her menstrual period because she could not afford sanitary products. The shame and stigma surrounding the topic made it difficult for her to ask for help.
In that moment, support meant more than just providing materials—it meant listening without judgment and reminding her that her dignity matters.
Through Usbin Women Initiative, we provided menstrual hygiene kits, education on reproductive health, and mentorship for the girls. We also created a safe environment where they could openly discuss challenges they faced as young women.
The transformation was remarkable. The same girl who once spoke with fear later stood confidently before her peers, sharing what she had learned and encouraging others not to feel ashamed of their bodies. Her courage inspired other girls to speak up, ask questions, and support one another.
That moment reminded me that empowerment spreads like a ripple. When one girl finds her voice, she inspires many others to find theirs.
I envision a world where women supporting women becomes the norm. In that world, girls will grow up surrounded by mentors, safe spaces, and opportunities. Women will celebrate one another’s achievements instead of competing for limited space.
To build this world, we must intentionally create communities of care—through mentorship, education, advocacy, and resource sharing. When women lift each other, we create a powerful movement where no girl is left behind and every woman has the chance to thrive.
