Donald Trump intervenes to end the Sudan war

US President Donald Trump posted his first tweet addressing the situation in Sudan, following his remarks about a 30-minute conversation with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

In his tweet, posted on Truth Social early Thursday morning, Trump wrote: “Horrific atrocities are taking place in Sudan. It has become the most violent place on earth, as well as the greatest humanitarian crisis ever. Food, doctors, and everything else are desperately needed. Arab leaders from around the world, and especially the very respected Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, who recently left the United States, have asked me to use the power and influence of the Presidency to immediately end what is happening in Sudan.”

He continued: “It is a great civilization and culture, which has unfortunately deteriorated, but can be restored by working with and coordinating with countries, including those in the region with tremendous wealth, that want this to happen. We will work with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and other Middle Eastern partners to end these atrocities and, at the same time, stabilize Sudan. Thank you for your attention to this matter. God bless the world!” Trump said during a US-Saudi investment conference in Washington, D.C., that the Saudi Crown Prince wanted him to do "very impactful work with respect to Sudan." He added that he "hadn't planned to be involved in it," saying, "I thought it was crazy and out of control."

The US president continued, "But I see how important it is to you and many of your friends in this room. Sudan—we're going to start working on it."
