DIGITAL ACCESS TO ALL MALAWIANS(DAAM)

"This is an update in a progress my NGO/volunteer TEAM in Malawi did towards the end of December 2025 in implementing our short term goals."

“Digital Access for All Malawi (DAAM)”

A collaboration initiative created by- Jackie Iwu,

Founder of Agwamma Women outreach Africa,

CEO of- Agwamma Media Consulting registered in Abuja Nigeria.

PROBLEM STATEMENT:

In November 2025, I sent a short term onsite and Virtual Trainings curriculum on my MHE initiative to my Malawian Team leaders to validate so we can start implementing; while I work on long term implementations which involves my being present in Malawi to execute my projects.

By December 2025, after their Validations, my leaders who also are executives in NGO organizations applauded the plan, assured me we can commence but they mentioned one hindrance that could deter us from training and empowering lots of Malawians mostly in their rural communities who would benefit from our programs.

The majority of Malawians, especially in rural areas like Mulanje, Pondamali, Kunthulu communities lack reliable internet access. This digital divide prevents young people, women, and communities from accessing educational resources, online markets, telehealth, and critical information for economic and social development.

Without intervention, these communities risk being left further behind in the global digital economy like our MHE (PERIOD POVERTY) initiative which aims to empower youths, girls and women not just to be educated on MENSTRUAL HYGIENE but to produce by themselves reusable menstrual products with electric sewing machines for faster, hygienic and huge production output for their own use and for sales to earn income too.

So when I got this year notification of collaboration project from Kirthi Jayakuma here on World Pulse to apply, I decided to channel my energy towards DIGITAL ACCESS in rural Malawi communities alongside my Malawian team which I established two years ago.

"This collaboration initiative will begin with a pilot phase in one of the most underserved community in Malawi. The award will be utilized as seed funding to establish a small-scale, community-managed digital access hub, train local digital ambassadors, and deploy offline educational resources. The pilot will generate measurable impact data, community feedback, and documentation, serving as a proof of concept to support scaling the initiative through future partnerships and expanded funding"

This project will be us “killing two birds with one stone” in the sense that, if we get the resources to reach our vision, those youths and women who complained of not being able to join our MHE trainings due to no internet access will happily join which creates more impacts and life saving.

The second part will be empowering economic situations where more jobs will be created in the establishment of “solar panels powered wifi cyber cafes” where those in the rural communities could easily access internet facilities.

VISION :

To create inclusive, affordable, and sustainable internet access for under-served communities in Malawi, enabling remote MHE coaching/ mentorship, Campaigns, entrepreneurship, and civic participation for all.

OBJECTIVES:

Expand Connectivity: Provide affordable internet access through community Wi-Fi hubs, solar-powered hotspots, and mobile connectivity solutions.

Digital Literacy: Offer training programs for youth, women, and small business owners to effectively use digital tools.

Local Content & Resources: Develop local language online content relevant to education, agriculture, health, and small business development.

Sustainable Community Model:

Empower local community members to manage hubs, maintain equipment, and provide digital mentorship, ensuring longevity beyond initial funding.

Innovative Approach:

•Solar-Powered Internet Kiosks:

•Deploy solar-powered Wi-Fi hubs in strategic rural areas to overcome electricity and connectivity limitations.

•Community Tech Champions: Train local youths as “Digital Ambassadors” who teach digital skills and maintain the hubs.

•Offline Access Solutions: Pre-load educational and health content on devices or local servers for communities with intermittent internet.

Partnerships for Affordability:

Collaborate with mobile network providers, technology experts and NGOs to subsidize connectivity for marginalized populations.

EXPECTED IMPACTS:

💡5,000+ rural households gain internet access within the first year.

💡2,000 women and youth trained in digital literacy and online entrepreneurship in production of Menstrual Hygiene products

Increased school performance through access to digital learning resources.

💡Communities empowered to create local solutions through information access.

SUSTAINABILITY:

Revenue from small user fees or local business sponsorships can support hub maintenance. Local “Digital Ambassadors” ensure long-term technical and educational support.

“This initiative not only provides internet access but empowers communities to thrive digitally, creating opportunities for education, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development. By supporting Digital Access for All Malawi, funders invest in closing the digital divide, fostering economic growth, and building resilient, connected communities.”

OUR SOLUTION:

💡Solar-Powered Wi-Fi Hubs: Affordable, renewable connectivity for undeserved community.

💡Community Digital Ambassadors:

💡Youths trained to teach digital skills and maintain hubs.

💡Offline Learning Resources: Pre-loaded educational and health content for areas with intermittent internet.

💡Local Partnerships: Collaborations with network providers and NGOs to make access affordable to rural communities.
