Pledges do not protect women. Action does.
Today, on Day 6 of the 16 Days of Activism, we turn our attention to a message that feminist movements across the world have been echoing for years: governments must move beyond promises and take bold, sustained action to prevent violence against women.
Every year, we hear commitments—plans, pledges, policy statements. But for far too many communities, these words never translate into real change. Shelters remain underfunded. Prevention programs struggle to survive. Activists face burnout and backlash. Survivors wait for justice that never comes.
Pledges do not protect women. Action does.
If governments truly want to end violence against women, they must invest in the systems, people, and movements that make safety possible. This means: Funding violence prevention—not as an optional add-on, but as a national priority. Supporting the grassroots feminist organizations who hold communities together, respond to survivors, and challenge the norms that fuel abuse.
Standing with feminist movements, resourcing them with flexible, sustainable funding—not project scraps or symbolic grants, but real investment that reflects the scale of the crisis. Prevention requires long-term commitment. Community safety requires resourcing. Feminist organizing requires trust, courage, and partnership. Governments must stop applauding from the sidelines and step into the work with full responsibility.
Today, we call on governments everywhere:
- Don’t just pledge. Act. Fund violence prevention.
- Support communities. Stand with feminist movements; because without your genuine investment, the goal of ending violence remains out of reach.
This is how we build the feminist futures we all deserve.
