Women’s Fight Against Gender-Based Violence
My Story - Being underestimated because of my gender. There was a time in my life where I feel like I am not worthy of anything. They told me that I’m not enough, not capable of doing manly/masculine things. They told me that I can’t perform the job well because I am a woman (since that moment..I started to question myself, Am I really not good enough? (and now that I doubted myself..I feel valueless, I feel less of a person, I feel useless)…. They’re letting us feel that We Women are meant and destined to be working only at the house. I guess it’s time to stand up. To speak for the truth —that we women are capable of any professions! We are meant for great things! to anything we could possibly accomplish in life! (Why are they limiting us?) Enough is enough! I am proud to say I’m a fighter, a survivor! (and now an activist against Gender-based Violence).
Dear Sister, I want you to know that being silent while hiding your pain is not okay and stop normalizing it.
Forms of Gender-Based Violence
Suicidal tendencies due to ~ discrimination, verbal harassment, physical-mental-emotional abuse, cyber bullying, inequality, manipulation —taking advantage of your capabilities, underestimating your potential because you’re a woman
Threats
the abuser tends to;
Discrimination.(racism, religion, gender, skin color, sexual preference, maternal) telling you harsh words, treating you like less of a human, always contradicting your ideas, values and ways of life, they prioritize looks (skin color) rather than your authenticity, hard to deal with because of their beliefs and narcissistic behavior —they’re always correct.
Cyber bullying. Social Media ~ Online attacks that destroys your name and reputation for the sake of their personal gain and interest.
Inequality. No fair treatment. Always comparing you from others.
Physical, Mental & Emotional Abuse. Hurting you physically. Draining you mentally. Traumatic Experiences that affects your emotional state.
Verbal Harassment. Verbally harassing you (in front of your workmates, friends, family).
Manipulation. Letting you believe about their lies. Taking advantage of your capabilities for their own benefit regardless of what you think.
Being Underestimated. Lack of interest, respect, trust and belief from you because you’re a woman (letting you feel worthless that even you yourself are starting to doubt with your capabilities).
Awareness. So if you’re suffering from one of those threats being mentioned above then you’re probably at risk, your life is at risk —please seek help, the sooner the better. Don’t hesitate. Never underestimate a small issue, you don’t know what life threatening lies ahead. If not now, then when? Take action immediately. Please know that help is always available. Feel free to reach out with professionals. Talk with your friends or colleagues or family. Have courage to speak for yourself (imagine if you don’t speak for yourself then who will? and what about your child?).
Things you can do. Call the Police. Go to the nearest Police Station. Seek for Legal Advice. Get a lawyer and file a case. Communicate with your family and friends —talk with them in private. Seek with Professionals (psychiatrists, psychologists, doctors) to guide you through your journey towards healing. Surround yourself with positive people —that will help you grow, that will uplift you!
and now that you’re aware, be confident to speak up for what is right regardless of your flaws. Try to speak up for others also.
My dear sister, I want you to know that your past doesn’t define your future. Make the most of your time meaningful and make your present better. Dressed up. Be confident. Be brave. Be unapologetic. Speak up. We can’t afford to see another woman being treated badly just because of simply being herself. No excuse for the abuse!
