Climate Resilience: Protecting the Structural Dignity of the Girl

Story by: EDITH IJEH

Location: NIGERIA / REPUBLIC OF BENIN (Cross-cultural / Anglophone & Francophone Regions)

Edith is a dedicated humanitarian and changemaker driven by the belief that our shared humanity transcends all boundaries. Her mission is to provide a lifeline to vulnerable children, rural women, and displaced families through the provision of food, clothing, and both skilled and non-skilled education.

As a researcher focused on institutional reform and the creation of 'Sanctuaries' for girls, I see climate change not just as a weather pattern, but as a threat to the structures that protect human dignity. In my work across different regions, I've seen that when environmental crises strike, the 'internal mindset' and the 'external safety' of a girl are the first things to erode.

We cannot have institutional peace if we do not have environmental stability. My perspective is that we must build schools and systems that are 'climate-resilient' so that a girl's education and her dignity are never washed away by a flood or dried up by a drought.
