Beyond the Camp Walls: A Refugee’s Journey to Becoming a Cloud Architect

My professional cloud certification earned through mobile learning in Nyarugusu Refugee Camp.
My name is Muhamadi Faustine, and I live in the Nyarugusu Refugee Camp in Tanzania. In a place where resources are scarce and the future often feels uncertain, I decided to look toward the sky—specifically, the Cloud.
Over the past year, I have dedicated myself to mastering high-end technology. Using only my smartphone and limited data, I have successfully earned certifications in AWS Cloud Solutions Architecture and Microsoft Azure Security Engineer (AZ-500) through Coursera. I am also a practitioner of Active Pedagogy, believing that education should be practical and transformative.
However, I have hit a digital wall. To truly master these cloud environments and secure a professional future, I need to perform 'Hands-on Labs' which require a computer. Currently, I am training a group of 6 young women in basic tech, but we are all sharing a single smartphone screen.
I am seeking a micro-grant of $400 to purchase a Chromebook and a Pocket Wi-Fi. This equipment will be a lifeline. It will allow me to:
Complete professional cloud labs on AWS and Azure.
Provide better training to the girls in my community, giving them a path out of poverty.
Turn my theoretical certifications into a remote career that can support my family.
Being a refugee does not define my potential—my skills do. I am ready to work, ready to build, and ready to lead. I just need the tools to start. Thank you for standing with me.
