Beyond the bleed : Fibroids Awareness Initiative

*Beyond the Bleed: Fibroids Awareness Initiative*

Did you know that 1 in 4 women in South Africa will develop fibroids in their lifetime? 🤯 Yet, many of us know very little about this condition.

Fibroids are non-cancerous growths in the uterus that can cause debilitating symptoms like heavy bleeding, pain, and infertility. For many women, living with fibroids means:

- Chronic pain and discomfort that disrupts daily life

- Heavy periods that impact work, relationships, and social life

- Anxiety and stress about the future

- Limited treatment options and support due to lack of research and awareness

Meet Nandi*, a 32-year-old woman who shares her story: "I felt like I was losing myself to these fibroids. The pain was unbearable, and I couldn't work or care for my family like I wanted to."

And there's Thandi*, a 28-year-old professional who's struggling to keep her job due to constant bleeding and pain. "I feel like I'm failing at work and at home. My colleagues think I'm just 'heavy menstrual bleeding' but they don't understand. I can't talk about it openly because it's 'women's business' and it's embarrassing."

The worst part? Fibroids are often shrouded in stigma and taboo. Women are hesitant to speak out due to fear of judgment or shame. Research on fibroids is limited, and many healthcare providers aren't equipped to provide adequate support.

At Mbokodo Resilience Institute, we're launching an initiative to raise awareness about fibroids and support women living with this condition. We believe that:

- Every woman deserves access to accurate information and care

- Fibroids shouldn't define a woman's life or limit her potential

- Community support can make a difference in healing and resilience

Join us in shining a light on fibroids! 💪

- Share your story or a loved one's experience with fibroids

- Learn more about fibroids and treatment options

- Support women living with fibroids with empathy and understanding

Together, let's break the stigma and create a community that empowers women to take control of their health and wellbeing.
