Be like little children

Seeking
Encouragement

As I went to collect my dry clothes from the line, I noticed the sound of two preschoolers, brothers, one older than the other, playing together.
What started as a delightful game suddenly turned into an exchange of slaps and blows. Naturally, the elder brother, showing his strength, overpowered his younger sibling, delivering some serious slaps. The younger one had to give up and began crying until their father heard him.
The younger brother reported his elder sibling, who quickly apologised, and the crying subsided. I considered intervening, but these days, raising a child is no longer a community effort. We live in a world focused on minding our own business, and trust me, it spares you from insult and shame.
I was surprised that the younger child, after a brief moment of tears, picked himself up (pakurumo) and went straight back to play with his brother, as if nothing had happened.
What I learnt from these two brothers is the power of love and forgiveness. Adults can hold grudges for years, but children let go quickly and remain free-spirited. No wonder the Bible emphasises this point: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”
Moral of the story: Be like little children: love freely, forgive quickly and hold no malice
