Addressing the Gap: Vocational Training and Women’s Leadership in My Community

In my community, one of the challenges I've found was the lack of vocational training opportunities, especially for young women. Many talented and ambitious individuals are eager to contribute to the local economy or acquire skills that can sustain them financially but without access to practical training, these dreams remain out of reach. This gap not only limits economic growth but also stifles the potential of women, whose leadership and creativity could transform our neighborhoods.

Recognizing this, I decided to take action. Thrtouhy my association, Association MamynySoa, I created a vocational training initiative designed to empower women and youth in my community. Our programs focus on practical skills, particularly language training in English and French. More than just learning languages, participants gain confidence, networks, and mentorship, equipping them to take active roles in their personal and community development.

Already, we’ve seen some inspiring results. Our participants continue to learn, improve, and grow in their language abilities, opening doors to new opportunities in education, communication, and beyond. These early successes highlight that solutions are most effective when they are locally tailored, community-driven, and inclusive of women’s voices and especially if the association is supported.

But there’s more work to be done. To truly bring about lasting change, we need support and funding to scale our reach, expanding programs to reach more remote or under-resourced areas can create ripple effects across the region of Antananarivo, Madagascar.

My vision is a world where every woman in my community can dream big and build practical skills to achieve her vision. I imagine neighborhoods where women and youth continue learning, communicating confidently in multiple languages while valorizing their mother tongue, and contributing meaningfully to their communities. I hope for a community where mentorship, collaboration, and growth are possible.

Creating this vocational training program was not just about language skills, it was about igniting confidence, sparking leadership, and proving that women’s vision can reshape society. Change starts with one spark, but with collective effort, it can become a fire that illuminates an entire community.

We believe that when women lead, the world changes. And through initiatives like ours, we can ensure that change is tangible, inclusive, and lasting.
