A Cup of Coffee ☕️
It was a rainy Thursday morning, & I was running late.
I ran into the store, with no umbrella, dripping, & hoping to grab a quick coffee before I headed to work.
The line was long, & I sighed, at the usual chaos of a busy morning.
I chose not to let impatience or frustration take over.
Ahead of me, an elderly man fumbled with coins at the register.
The cashier was patient but firm, trying to explain the total.
I noticed the man’s hands trembling. Without thinking, I stepped forward & said, “Let me get that for you.”
The man’s eyes widened, saying that he couldn’t let me do that.
“It’s okay, I don’t mind,” I said gently. “It’s no trouble.”
He smiled, a little embarrassed, a little relieved, & thanked me.
But what caught me by surprise wasn’t his gratitude—it was the ripple effect.
People in line smiled at each other.
The cashier paused & nodded.
Even the person behind me in line struck up a conversation , after the little moment of humanity.
I walked out into the rain, coffee in hand, feeling lighter. Feeling fulfilled.
A simple gesture—just covering someone’s coffee—had softened the day for more people than I realized.
Sometimes, kindness isn’t grand.
It isn’t newsworthy or heroic.
It’s small.
It’s human.
And it matters.
This weekend:
Notice somewhere that kindness already exists, & add to it!
Pay it forward ❤️
