2026 NAA Proclamation Project

I have the honor of being 1 of 3 Certified Aphasia Ambassadors representing the state of Virginia for the National Aphasia Association Proclamation Project.

This project sets out to have all 50 states proclaim June as National Aphasia Awareness Month.

**Aphasia** is a communication disorder caused by damage to the brain—most often from stroke or brain injury.

It affects a person’s ability to speak, understand, read, and write… but it does **not** affect intelligence.

Millions of individuals live with aphasia, often facing isolation simply because the world doesn’t fully understand what they’re experiencing.

That’s why awareness matters

Let this month be more than a title—let it be a movement.

A movement to listen more patiently.

To speak with empathy.

To create space for every voice, even when communication looks different.

💚 Spread awareness.

💚 Practice patience.

💚 Choose inclusion.
