Peace is her verdict — not written in laws alone, but in the courage of women who dare to defend justice when silence feels safer.
I have learned that peace is not the absence of conflict; it is the presence of fairness, dignity, and hope. As a lawyer and gender justice advocate from Pakistan, I have witnessed how women carry the weight of injustice on their shoulders, yet still rise with grace to rebuild harmony in their homes, workplaces, and communities.
My journey began with one truth: peace and justice are inseparable. Through years of working alongside women survivors, I realized that true peace cannot be achieved until women have equal access to justice — and equal voices in decision-making.
With the support of Pakistan Women Lawyers Council (the first ever tech in law Legal Incubator for women Lawyers) and Female Governed Dispute Resolution Center (FGDRC), I created a network of women lawyers trained in leadership, Mediation and access to justice. These women now serve as pillars of peace in their communities — providing free legal aid, mediating conflicts, and advocating for those who once had no voice. What started as a small effort has grown into a collective force for change, echoing the vision of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 — that women must be at the center of peacebuilding and post-conflict recovery.
Every year, during the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, I organize open dialogues and awareness sessions in women’s universities, bar rooms, and communities. Together, we break the silence, challenge norms, and remind each other that peace is not a privilege, but a human right.
Recently, I led a One-Day Workshop on Women, Peace and Security titled “Peace Is a Fundamental Right, Not a Luxury.” It brought together women lawyers, peacebuilders, and activists to reflect on UNSCR 1325 and their role as advocates for peace. By the end of the session, women who had arrived as participants left as changemakers. They pledged to build peace through legal empowerment, inclusion, and solidarity — transforming knowledge into action.
That day reaffirmed what I believe with all my heart:
Peace is not negotiated in boardrooms alone — it is built in our homes, classrooms, and courtrooms, every time a woman refuses to accept injustice.
Peace is a mother teaching her daughter to believe in herself.
Peace is a lawyer standing firm for truth despite threats.
Peace is a community choosing dialogue over division.
For me, peace is her verdict — the triumph of courage, compassion, and collective strength.
My vision is a world where every woman becomes her own defender of peace — not because it is easy, but because it is necessary.
Because when women lead justice, peace follows.
